I'M OBSESSED...

Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan of The Fall
I am so completely obsessed...with crime shows on Netflix. I've been a long time lover of Criminal Minds but I have branched out recently and found a real gem.

The Fall is a BBC drama that stars two people I think everybody knows, Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) and Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey). Anderson plays detective Stella Gibson assigned with catching a serial killer (Dornan) in Belfast, Ireland.

What makes this show different than most crime shows I've watched is that you know exactly who the murderer is. He's introduced in the first episode so instead of the suspense of not knowing driving you to come back for more, it's that you get to watch her delve into his mind and figure him out, and then watch him come up with every way possible to curb her. It'll make you want to yell, "Of course, you idiot!" at your tv when Netflix asks you if you're still watching.

Stella is an incredible character and she makes her male coworkers look completely one dimensional and uninteresting. She never hesitates to prove to them time and time again that she is more adept than all of them combined, even though these doofuses think otherwise. She is an utter badass, and is just the kind of female lead that the crime genre is noticeably missing.

At one point in the story, a detective suggests that she's so fascinated with Dornan's character Paul Spector that she's attracted to him sexually. She doesn't look surprised at all when he says this, (which just speaks to how well she knows their idiocy) she replies with "A woman, I forget who, once asked a male friend why men felt threatened by women. He replied that they were afraid that women might laugh at them. When she asked a group of women why women felt threatened by men, they said, 'We're afraid they might kill us.' He might fascinate you. I despise him with every fiber of my being." She is a woman after my own heart.

This show is insane. It's addictive, interesting, complex, and gripping. I binge watched the two seasons that are on Netflix so fast I had no idea what to do with myself after finishing the last episode. A third season is an absolute necessity.
